Permaculture Training for Teachers

Permaculture training for primary and secondary school teachers was held on 5-6 September 2022. On the first day of the two-day program, global ecological problems, climate change and industrial agriculture issues, as well as the concept of permaculture, natural agriculture and horticulture, urban agriculture and ecological life practices were discussed. In addition, good practices of school gardens were discussed. On the second day of the program carried out by Dr. Ceyhan Temürcü, a field visit was made to Tahtacıörencik village.

Good practices were observed in the village where permaculture practices were carried out. Good Practices in Tahtacıörencik Village Located 14 km from the center of Güdül, the village attracts attention with its climate and natural beauties. The product variety and durability stand out in the village, where the mild effects of the Black Sea transition zone are observed. With the permaculture practices carried out in recent years, the village is shown as a model for ecological agriculture. In the training program carried out by the Ankara Development Agency, the studies carried out in the village were examined on site. In the village, where a sustainable life is brought to life with teachings from nature, products such as tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, okra, zucchini, pears, strawberries and grapes are grown, as well as exotic species such as tomatillo (Mexican Tomato). On the other hand, successful applications were observed in species such as rosemary, lavender, St. John's Wort; Meetings with the producers were exchanged. It is expected that the training program will increase the awareness of teachers working in various schools in Ankara on the topics of permaculture, ecological agriculture and sustainable life, and the practices will become widespread in school gardens.

Permaculture

Permaculture is defined as the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems that have the diversity, stability and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is aimed that permaculture practices, which have successful applications in the world, become widespread in Ankara as well.

Urban Agriculture Development Program

With the Urban Agriculture Development Program carried out within the scope of the New Generation Rural Development Result-Oriented Program of the Ankara Development Agency, it is aimed to increase awareness and capacity in Ankara. It is aimed to develop cooperation in this regard between local administrations, ministries, non-governmental organizations and universities. In this context, it is planned to continue the Agency's work on permaculture in the coming period.
